The first half of the 20th century saw a large increase in flats and houses with smaller rooms. In response to this changing home fashions, some piano manufacturers built upright pianos that were much smaller than the traditional piano. 

This beautiful Art Deco Ministrelle 'mini piano' by Barratt & Robinson features side cupboards.
