DIRK VAN DER LUGT HARPSICHORD, Amsterdam, 1775
In the 18th century, about 25 harpsichord builders were active in Amsterdam. These builders often had small productions, so only few harpsichords have survived. The construction method was traditional and usually they had a keyboard size from C to f’’’. The registers are changed by extensions through the cheek. In addition to the two manual harpsichords by Dirk Van der Lugt In the Chris Maene Collection, another manual instrument is kept in Vestfold Fylkesmuseum Tonsberg Norway. Another manual harpsichord from the Berlin museum was lost in the Second World War.
