JOHANNES POHLMAN SQUARE PIANO, LONDON, 1769

A rare and early square piano on an original trestle stand with square legs. Pohlman was part of a group of German piano builders who settled in London after the Seven Years War (1756-1763). They were the pioneers who gave the English piano an unprecedented stimulus. These early square pianos did not have pedals or knee levers, but triggers in the left corner, operated by hand.
